Benjamin Wood is a Virginia native who started painting in his late teens after getting excited about art watching “the older kids” throw up graffiti all around Northern Virginia. Using acrylics, pastels, ink, crayons and a wide variety of other mixed media his work has an underlying intensity that expresses the beauty, chaos and clamor that is everyday life.
Ben has no formal training in art. However, from 2014-2017, he had the opportunity to work as a helper to a professional DC/Pittsburgh based painter and sculptor.
“A lot of my inspiration comes from the lyrics of the music I listen to, the stuff I see around me or hear on the news and things I daydream about when I’m supposed to be working. I’m also super into history and like to paint whatever historical event I’m digging into at the time.”
“As cliché as it sounds, the idea that you can think up anything and put it out onto a surface makes painting mind blowing to me.”
When not painting, you can find Ben roasting coffee for his small batch coffee company or manning an espresso machine at his day job in Leesburg.
